Today we are placed in between two November holidays, both connected with episodes of the Russian history. Ironically, both new and old at the same time. The first one, November 4th, is a new one as it is officially celebrated since 2005 only but related to an old story back in 1612. The second one, November 7th is an old one as it has been celebrated though all my young life but not celebrated any more, but a new one, as it is related to the events of 2017.
Holidays in Russia are more than holidays, they show all the mishmash of our life. They appear and disappear, then re-appear and disappear again. They clearly illustrate the famous Russian saying that “Russia is a country with an unpredictable past”.
